Using phones on flights is now allowed ! From September, 6 national airlines relax 3C usage rules

Starting September, passengers on national airlines can use 3C devices ! The Civil Aeronautics Administration announced on the 23rd the "Regulations on the Types of Devices That May Interfere with Flight or Communications and Their Usage Restrictions," easing the rules for 3C device usage by passengers on national airlines.

The Civil Aeronautics Administration stated that after the amendment to the "Civil Aviation Act," passengers may use electronic devices differently depending on the flight phase, as follows:

1. From when the aircraft begins moving until takeoff, and from landing until leaving the runway, the use of personal mobile communication devices such as mobile phones is permitted with the captain’s approval and according to the cabin crew’s instructions.

2. For both international and domestic flights throughout the entire journey, the use of personal electronic items that can be stowed or placed in the seat pocket, or personal mobile communication devices in airplane mode, is permitted.

3. Personal electronic items that cannot be carried on one’s person or stowed in the seat pocket (such as laptops and peripheral devices) may be used during the cruising phase of international flights (when flying above 10,000 feet); for domestic flights, considering factors such as cruising duration and operational arrangements, the aforementioned devices are still not permitted.

4. If qualified onboard communication equipment (such as Wi-Fi systems) is installed, corresponding communication devices may be used when such equipment is activated.

Currently, national airlines including China Airlines, EVA Air, and those operating domestic routes—Mandarin Airlines, TransAsia Airways, Uni Air, and Far Eastern Air Transport—have stated that this new measure will take effect on September 1.
