Spot a “Chanel” on Yangmingshan Mountain — Stunning Bicolor Camellias in Full Bloom This Summer

When it comes to the well-known brand Chanel, many people instinctively think of the elegantly shaped “camellia.” This beautiful flower species is not only commonly seen in Chanel’s products and accessories but can also be spotted in winter. However, you can now see these gorgeous camellias even in the summer on Yangmingshan Mountain.

At the Large Camellia Greenhouse in the Yangmingshan Flower Research Center, visitors can enjoy a feast for the eyes with both the “Rhododendron Camellia” and the “Chongzuo Golden Camellia,” where vivid reds and soft yellows brighten the mood.

The Rhododendron Camellia, visible upon entering the greenhouse, can grow up to 2 meters tall, with flowers about 10 cm in diameter. Its red blooms come in varieties with petals that differ in thickness, shade, and width. It earned its name because, from afar, it resembles a rhododendron. Since it can bloom all four seasons, it is also known as the Four Seasons Red Camellia.

Another variety, the Chongzuo Golden Camellia, is also a summer-blooming species. Its appearance resembles a bright yellow little bell, and it is quite rare in Taiwan. Now is the perfect time to admire it.

The Flower Research Center noted that besides viewing camellias, the Hushan Green Space, located at the pedestrian-vehicle separated area near the Yangmingshan Bus Terminal, is currently in full bloom with lotuses. Visitors can enjoy the surrounding mountain views and cool shade while being surrounded by lotuses by the pond.
