I’ve heard good things about Yixin Goose Meat. It used to be located next to Zhouji Meat Congee, but must have moved in the past few months to Lane 152 near Bangka Park. The old carrying pole from the original shop hasn’t been taken down, and after relocating, the place was renamed to Yixin Goose Meat. I dropped by while visiting Wanhua, both to try it out and to add another spot to my goose meat trail.

This time, I went solo—it’s pretty rare for me to eat goose meat alone, haha. Anyway, I didn’t get any noodles or rice, just a plate of sliced white goose and my favorite goose gizzard, plus a goose blood cake that I hadn’t had in ages.

I didn’t ask for too much goose meat this time, just the front section. The lady said she’d slice around 200 NT worth for me. I remember slices usually costing between 15–25 NT per liang (approx. 37.5g), so 20 NT seems about average. When it arrived, there was slightly less than I expected (but the front section has fewer bones). The total for just the goose meat came to 190 NT—hmm...

Although it’s all sliced flat, the way this stack of goose meat is arranged gives off a sort of “sliced-off” feel, especially since it was cooked just right, with the fibers still holding onto some juicy moisture. It looked quite delicate and photogenic.

The goose breast really was juicy and even sweeter than I expected. The texture of the meat was also quite refined. Comparing it to other goose breasts, the fattiness of the skin wasn’t overly rich, so the sweetness from the fat wasn’t as pronounced. But the meat itself had a strong aroma, so even eating a few slices plain without sauce didn’t feel bland or greasy.

The flavor of the goose gizzard wasn’t as intense as I like, but it was cooked well, cut into large chunks, and had a tender-crispy texture. The shop provided a garlic soy sauce with a hint of vinegar, which was perfect for dipping the innards.

Some people prefer the original flavor of goose meat, but I always go both ways—plain or with a bit of sauce. The natural sweetness of the goose meat was strong enough that it didn’t clash with the sweet-and-salty sauce (which seemed to have a touch of miso in it), but I didn’t like the other dipping sauce, which had a slight tang—it overpowered the sweetness for me.

Goose meat shops around Taiwan all have their own unique dipping sauces, and trying different ones often leads to pleasant surprises—or disappointments. The shop had already drizzled the sweet-savory sauce on the goose blood cake for me, and I thought it was delicious—it was soft and tender yet had a nice bounce to it. Business was decent even though it wasn’t peak dinner hours, but note that evening opening hours are a bit shorter.
