All Nippon Airways (ANA) has introduced an automatic baggage check-in system at Terminal 2 of Haneda Airport’s domestic flights starting today, allowing passengers to save time queuing, but the service is currently only available for domestic flights.

According to Japanese media reports, ANA has currently installed five automatic baggage check-in machines, which support four languages: Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, English, Japanese, and Korean.

Here’s how the automatic baggage check-in machine works:

1. Place your luggage on the check-in machine
2. Place your boarding pass on the machine’s scanner for reading
3. The system will automatically print the baggage tag; simply take it out and attach it to your luggage

Passengers should note that if the machine detects that the luggage is overweight or oversized, or if prohibited items are found inside, an error message will be displayed, and a flight attendant will be notified to handle the situation. The entire procedure takes about 60 to 70 seconds. ANA stated that in addition to reducing wait times for passengers, this also helps cut labor costs, but the service is currently only available at Terminal 2 of Haneda Airport’s domestic flights.
