Five airports in Indonesia closed due to volcanic eruption; China Airlines, EVA Air, and AirAsia cancel flights

Due to the eruption of Mount Raung volcano in East Java, Indonesia, multiple airports have been closed. Flights operated by national carriers China Airlines and EVA Air have been affected, and AirAsia has also canceled its direct Taipei–Banyuwangi flights scheduled for July 10 and July 11. Additionally, flights operated by Indonesia Air, Lion Air, Asia Aviation, and Qantas among others have been impacted, with over 130 flights estimated to have been canceled.

The five airports currently closed due to the volcanic eruption are Banyuwangi’s Blimbingsari Airport (I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport), Lombok’s Selaparang Airport, Lombok International Airport, East Java’s Blimbingsari Airport, and Notohadinegoro Airport in East Java.

China Airlinesstated that the Taipei–Banyuwangi flight originally scheduled to depart at 9:15 today will now take off at 8:00 a.m. on July 11. The return flight has also been postponed from 15:10 on July 10 to 14:10 on July 11.EVA Airannounced that its July 10 round-trip flights between Taipei and Banyuwangi have been canceled. An additional flight has been added on July 11 at 08:15 to accommodate passengers.

AirAsiaalso stated that Flight FD900 from Banyuwangi to Taipei on July 10, and Flight FD901 from Taipei to Banyuwangi on July 11, have been canceled due to the volcanic eruption. Affected passengers can choose to rebook on flights within seven days free of charge, or have their ticket value stored in their account for 90 days.

In addition to AirAsia, Indonesia Air has canceled 112 flights, Lion Air has canceled 27 flights, and both Batik Air and Garuda Indonesia have canceled their Taipei–Banyuwangi flights.
