Sweet and tangy fruits, tapioca pearls paired with handmade grass jelly — “Buddha Capital” retains its crown in the Grass Jelly PK Competition

The 2015 “Taiwan Summer Solstice 235” series of events, organized by the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, announced today (July 21) the results of the nationwide “Healing Grass Jelly” selection. Among them, Buddha Capital Grass Jelly stood out with its chilled dessert “Beloved Lovers,” featuring strawberries, Yulan pomelo lychee tapioca pearls, and passion fruit, successfully retaining its championship title.

After a one-month online public vote among 15 renowned grass jelly shops participating in the Healing Grass Jelly PK Competition, expert judges made the final selections.Buddha Capital Grass Jellywas crowned champion once again, with second place going to “Aishanwu” from Alishan, whose “Love Affair with Grass Jelly” dessert features Q-textured grass jelly paired with locally sourced fresh tree tomatoes. Meanwhile, the century-oldLongquan Ice Shopfrom Madou in Tainan took third place with its “Mixed Grass Jelly Ice.”

In addition to the grass jelly competition, the second wave of the summer-exclusive event “Taiwan Summer Solstice 235, 100,000 Grand Treasure Hunt” also kicks off today. The Tourism Bureau has set up 79 unique check-in spots across seven zones along the Tropic of Cancer. Participants need to form teams (up to four people), choose at least four check-in spots from two or more zones, take photos, upload them, and write a caption of 50 characters or less to create a four-panel comic-style entry to join the contest. The top prize is NT$100,000.

The Tourism Bureau stated that it hopes both domestic and international visitors can experience the summer charm along Taiwan’s Tropic of Cancer by participating in this team-based event.
