"Ghost food trucks" roaming around Taichung: handmade sticky rice sausages, sausages, and salted pork

Taichung Mobile Food Truck: Fuzi Xiu’s Mobile Truck

When it comes to "Fuzi Xiu," I’d say over half the people in Taichung have heard of him...

I remember eating at his stall about 2–3 years ago in Fengyuan, right in front of Hua Nan Bank. Little did I know he’d soon become a mobile food truck, and even less did I expect he’d turn into a roaming ghost food truck... XD

For a mom with a little kid, opportunities to go out at night are really rare, so ever since Fuzi Xiu started traveling all over Taichung, I haven’t had a chance to eat there. But I did subscribe to his Facebook page and turned on “See First,” though it’s never once been near me...

Later, I heard he was setting up at the Yidianli Market in Beitun, Taichung, and I was planning to go, but then he pulled out not long after. The point is... one day we just got home, opened Facebook, and his fan page popped up — turns out his truck was parked near my place that day... So I told Kevin I was going to get some Fuzi Xiu and headed out. The spot was at the intersection of Songzhu Road and Jungong Road, right by a park corner, not far from Freeway 74...

There were three set meals available that day, plus à la carte options...

I think I was the second? Or third group of customers that day? (Wow, I really love food!) Fuzi Xiu now has many trucks roaming around, so sometimes you might not even meet the original Fuzi Xiu himself. This guy that day seemed to be Fuzi Xiu’s... cousin? Nephew? Anyway... doesn’t matter... XD He said they had been selling at Guanguan when it was cold, and since there were leftover ingredients, they stopped by Songzhu Road and Jungong Road on their way back...

Seeing me take photos, the cousin? said I looked super professional and even asked if I wanted to shoot the food. Of course I did... how generous of him!?

They only sell three things: sausages, sticky rice sausages, and salted pork. You can mix and match your own combo, and everything is grilled to order...

The cousin gave me a piece of large intestine — (I heard this is super rare, is that true?)

There were lots of toppings nearby, so you DIY your own after getting your food... While I was adding toppings, a young guy next to me asked, “Is this place popular?” I said, “Huh... how did you even know about it?” He said, “I just saw people lining up and joined in...” Ugh—maybe they were gambling or discussing state affairs, you innocent kid...

When I got home, I quickly took some unpacking-style photos...

I added bean sprouts, kimchi, and ginger... (Actually, none of these are my favorites, I have no idea why I threw them in randomly?)

The sauces are also DIY...

It was sour and crispy, but the bean sprouts were a bit soggy — not my thing...

The salted pork... the high heat rendered out the fat, so it wasn’t too greasy, but it was really salty... XD

The sausage was good too...

The sticky rice sausage... the casing was crispy, not rubbery at all, unlike those fake ones. Everything I ate that day was pretty good, just... not as tasty as the first time I had it in Fengyuan. I don’t know if the recipe changed or the ingredients did. Either way... the food was nice, but it didn’t make me want to queue up or come back again...
