Survey reveals top countries eager to visit Taiwan during summer vacation: Hong Kong ranks first, Japan second

Global travel search engine Skyscanner on the 24th announced the rankings of the top 10 countries and regions most eager to visit Taiwan during the 2015 summer vacation period. Hong Kong ranked first, followed by Japan and South Korea, with the UK and Germany from Europe also making the top 10. The UK even ranked higher than China (which came in 6th), showing that Taiwan’s travel appeal is not only loved in Asia but also attracts European visitors.

Skyscanner stated that apart from popular attractions such as Alishan’s unique small train and mountain scenery, other sites like the cat village in Houtong and the famous sky lanterns in Pingxi have drawn numerous visitors. Not to mention internationally renowned attractions like Jiufen Mountain Town, which feels like stepping into a movie scene—paired with Taiwan’s distinctive themed homestays, offering guests a unique experience with every stay.

Fang Fang, Skyscanner’s marketing manager for Hong Kong and Taiwan, said: “Taiwan is a beautiful treasure island. Aside from modern commercial areas, it also boasts rich, majestic natural scenery, along with globally renowned night market snacks and local hospitality—all key factors attracting travelers. Moreover, Taiwan’s friendly people make foreign visitors feel at ease visiting. With summer vacation and the upcoming peak travel season in the second half of the year, we believe even more international tourists will come to explore Taiwan.”
