Iced coffee, desserts with a view — your little corner in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong, for solo moments

It’s another rainy day. Amidst the patter of rain and the cool breeze, you might find yourself craving a cup of steaming hot coffee with wisps of rising vapor, sinking into a sofa to enjoy a cozy afternoon and ride out the rainy season. In such moments, MG CAFÉ is definitely a great choice.

MG CAFÉ is located on Hoi Bun Road in Kwun Tong. If you’re taking the MTR, getting off at Ngau Tau Kok station is the closest option. After exiting at Exit B6, walk along Lai Yip Street for a bit, then turn into Wai Yip Street and continue walking for a short distance to reach the café. The interior space isn’t very large, but it’s not cramped either—it’s quite comfortable. This time, the editor chose a corner near the entrance, a little nook where one can easily get lost in their own world, yet still enjoy watching the passersby outside the window. It’s truly relaxing.

The rich aroma of coffee wafted over, triggering the editor’s coffee cravings, making it impossible to resist ordering a cup right away. Ordering here isn’t as simple as raising your hand while seated—customers have to go to the counter, place their order, pay, pick up a number, and then wait for their coffee and food to be served. This time, the editor ordered an iced chocolate coffee, an all-day breakfast, and a blueberry dessert.

To be honest, the editor isn’t particularly fond of smoked salmon due to its often overly salty taste, but the craving for an all-day breakfast was too strong, so they decided to “take a chance” and ordered it. Surprisingly, aside from the salad dressing, mango sauce—sweet and tangy—was also added. When combined with the smoked salmon, it balanced out the saltiness and added a refreshing twist.

Perhaps some people really dislike the bitterness of salad greens, but in this case, the mango sauce becomes the hero. Moreover, almost every element of this all-day breakfast was delicious. With every bite into the grilled mushrooms, a burst of sweet, juicy mushroom essence floods your mouth, while the crispy toast carries a hint of vanilla. This breakfast makes it hard to decide where to start.

Coffee is usually best enjoyed hot to fully appreciate its aroma, but this iced coffee was surprisingly delightful. On a scorching day when you can’t bear the thought of hot coffee, stopping by for a cold brew here is not a bad idea.

To be frank, the editor can’t even pronounce the name of this dessert—it was simply pointed out to the staff when ordering. Served in an exquisite pinkish-purple mini pot, it holds smooth, creamy pudding with a milky fragrance, topped with a tangy blueberry sauce that’s simply mouthwatering.

Additionally, the shop also offers handmade leather goods for sale. Beyond satisfying your appetite and relaxing your mind, you might just find a little treasure you’ve been looking for.

And just like that, a moment with a cup of coffee earns you a sunset painted with azaleas.
