Don’t miss the stunning scenery of Alishan in summer — a “carpet of orange irises” blankets the mountains

Aside from the ancient cypress tree, sunrise, and mountain landscapes, summer in Alishan also boasts beautiful flower fields that captivate visitors. Along the slopes and wooden boardwalks, fields of iris flowers bloom everywhere, especially around Alishan Railway Station, forming vibrant orange carpets that rival the beauty of hydrangeas, becoming another eye-catching highlight of summer in Alishan.

The Chiayi Forest District Office stated that iris flowers are common ground-covering and soil-stabilizing plants in Alishan. Their easy growth and drought-resistant nature allow them to blanket the ground in lush greenery, presenting a thriving green landscape.

The flowering season runs from June and July through mid-August. Large expanses of flower fields can be seen on the slopes around Alishan Railway Station, along both sides of Zhushan Forest Road, and within Zhapingshan Park. The orange flower carpets spread across the mountains, with their vivid and rich hues standing out prominently against the green backdrop — making them one of the must-see features for summer visits to Alishan.
