Travel Center / Taipei Report
Recently, Taiwanese tourists in Japan asked the hotel to receive 55 packages on their behalf, sparking heated discussion. Members of the tour group expressed dissatisfaction over being publicly judged while traveling abroad. Lion Travel met with a representative of the group this (3rd) afternoon, and both sides communicated to clarify the situation. Lion Travel issued a statement saying that many of the rumors and information were not factual and had caused distress to both the travelers and the company, so they released six statements to explain what actually happened.

The full text of Lion Travel’s statement is as follows:
1. It is normal tourism behavior for consumers participating in group tours to make private purchases or have goods delivered via online shopping during the trip. This group was on an all-inclusive package tour, and the shopping items were received by a designated representative solely for the convenience of delivery and to avoid confusion.
2. After clarification between our company and the travelers, it was confirmed that all 55 online shopping packages were purchased collectively by the group, not by a single traveler. Moreover, the recipient was not, as rumored, just one person receiving on behalf of everyone. The contents were mostly local specialties, food, and small appliances, contrary to rumors that they were all home appliances.
3. It was found that the group’s travelers had contacted the Japanese hotel in advance to explain their shopping and package-receiving needs, and only after obtaining the hotel’s consent were the items sent there. The items were also labeled with the group’s code as requested by the hotel for confirmation. Given our long-term cooperative relationship with the hotel’s suppliers, we expressed our gratitude to the hotel staff for assisting with receiving and checking the items on behalf of the group members. This was a friendly gesture, and we have not received any complaints from the Japanese hotel regarding this matter.
4. Regarding whether the tour leader appointed by the group violated our company’s operational regulations or the commission agreement, our company will conduct interviews and internal investigations. If any misconduct is found, it will be handled according to the commission agreement. We will also strengthen the training of our in-house tour leaders.
5. As many media reports on this incident were not confirmed with the group travelers or our company, their content differed significantly from the facts. These reports have affected the daily lives of the group travelers and have also caused distress to our company. We hope that any public concern about this matter will be based on facts and that balanced reporting will help resolve the controversy.
6. The media impact arising from misunderstandings about this incident in recent days is not something the group travelers or our company wished to see. External commentary has led to many false rumors, affecting the reputations of both the group travelers and our company. While we deeply regret the misunderstandings and distress caused by this incident, we hope it will subside after the facts are clarified by us and the travelers. However, if false information continues to spread and affects the rights and interests of either the group travelers or our company, we reserve the right to pursue legal action.
