Typhoon Soudelor Approaches Taiwan: List of National Parks and Scenic Areas Temporarily Closed

Dubbed by foreign media as the strongest typhoon of the year, "Soudelor" is approaching Taiwan. The Central Weather Bureau issued a land warning at 8:30 PM on the 6th and urged residents in Hualien, Taitung, and Yilan to stay alert. The current opening status of national parks and scenic areas across Taiwan is as follows:

Shei-Pa National Park:The park management announced that all hiking trails within ecological protection zones are temporarily closed starting immediately. Mountain roads are prone to landslides and falling rocks during rain, and the park urges visitors to avoid mountain hiking activities during this period to ensure safety.

Yushan National Park:The park management urges travelers to refrain from entering mountainous areas and to stay vigilant regarding road conditions in alert zones.

Taroko National Park:The park management stated that from the 6th onward, all entry into ecological protection zones and other restricted areas under its jurisdiction is completely prohibited.

Kenting National Park:All beaches have been closed. Visitors are advised not to approach the seaside during the typhoon.

[National Forest Recreation Areas and Scenic Areas Across Taiwan]

The Forestry Bureau announced that the Taipingshan Forest Recreation Area and its nature trails in Yilan will be temporarily closed starting at 2 PM on the 6th.

Hsinchu Forest Management Office:In response to the land warning for the typhoon, forest recreation areas under its jurisdiction—including Neidong, Manyueyuan, Dongyanshan, Guanwu, Wulai Forest Railway, and Lalashan Nature Reserve—will implement temporary closure protocols following the issuance of the Central Weather Bureau’s land typhoon warning. Visitors are urged not to enter these areas during the typhoon.

Dongshih Forest Management Office:With visitor safety in mind, forest recreation areas under its jurisdiction—including Daxueshan, Baxianshan, Hehuanshan, and Wuling—will be closed and all associated trails will be sealed off starting August 7.

Chiayi Forest Management Office:Due to the typhoon, visitors are urged not to go to the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area or any trails within its jurisdiction to ensure safety.

Pingtung Forest Management OfficeAnnounced on the 6th that the Beidawushan National Trail and the Jinsuiying Ancient Trail are currently closed, and applications for cabins at the Gui Valley Mountain Hut have been suspended. To protect visitor safety, people are advised not to hike in the mountains for the time being.

Taitung Forest Management Office:Jiannin Lake, Jinsuiying National Trails, and nine other nature trails are temporarily closed in their entirety due to safety concerns. Visitors are also advised not to go to the Zhiben National Forest Recreation Area.
