Shilin Official Residence closes for 7 days as all trees fell due to the typhoon – Taiwan-wide attraction closures due to storm damage

The following venues remain closed or suspended on the 10th due to Typhoon Soudelor:

Northern Region:

Taipei Zoo
Large fallen trees are still blocking roads and cannot be cleared. To ensure the safety of animals and visitors, the zoo has decided to remain closed on August 10.

Children's Amusement Park, Maokong Gondola
Venue cleanup, ride repairs, and tower inspections will be carried out from the 9th to the 10th. Operations are suspended and are scheduled to resume on the 11th.

Shilin Official Residence
Due to Typhoon Soudelor, 143 trees have completely fallen, 38 partially fallen, and over a hundred branches broken, with multiple paths blocked. Cleanup and restoration efforts are underway with full manpower. The garden is expected to be closed for 7 days, with hopes of reopening on August 16.

Taiping Mountain National Forest Recreation Area, Manyueyuan Forest Recreation Area, Neidong Forest Recreation Area, Dongyanshan Forest Recreation Area, Guanwu Forest Recreation Area, Lalashan Nature Reserve
Still closed as repairs continue from typhoon damage.

Wulai Cable Car
Remains suspended on the 10th.

Yangmingshan National Forest Recreation Area
The Visitor Center and various service stations are temporarily closed to the public until the environment is cleaned up and water/electricity services are restored. Ecological reserves and hiking trails are also being cleared of fallen trees and branches and are currently impassable. The Tianxiyuan Ecological Education Center has suffered severe typhoon damage and remains closed; reopening will depend on reconstruction progress.

For forest trails, areas such as Shitoushan Trail in Xindian, Paoma Ancient Trail in Jiaoxi, Songluo Trail, Linmei Shiban Trail, Our Lady’s Hiking Trail, Jiuliaoxi Nature Trail, Quantomu Nature Trail, Xinliao Waterfall Trail, Chaoyang Trail, Nan’ao Ancient Trail, Su-Hua Ancient Trail – Dankeng Section, and Jingualiao Fish and Fern Trail have been surveyed. Early findings indicate fallen trees and minor landslides, with high soil moisture levels posing risks of further collapses. These areas are expected to be closed for 7 to 10 days while assessments for reopening are made.

Central Region:

Wuling Forest Recreation Area, Daxueshan Forest Recreation Area
Still closed as repairs continue from typhoon damage.

Dongshi Forestry Culture Park
Seriously damaged by Typhoon Soudelor; currently under repair, reopening date to be announced.

Southern Region:

Tengjhih Forest Recreation Area, Kenting Forest Recreation Area, Shuangliu Forest Recreation Area
Still closed as repairs continue from typhoon damage.

* Alishan National Forest Recreation Area
Although the park reopened at 9:00 AM on the 10th, multiple trees have fallen along the main line of the Alishan Forest Railway (Chiayi-Fenchihu), and repairs are currently underway. The main line remains suspended today. Aside from the Zhushan Line sunrise train, which is not operating, the Zhaoping Line and Shenmu Line shuttle services are running flexibly in coordination with the reopening of Provincial Highway 18 and the park itself.

Eastern Region:

Shitiping Recreation Area and Jishih Cape Recreation AreaSeverely damaged by the typhoon, these areas are temporarily closed starting today. Shitiping Recreation Area has suspended admission fees and only the first parking lot remains open. Jishih Cape Recreation Area is closed for business. Other sites:Sanxiantai, Baxiandong, Xiaoyeliu, Lyudao Chaikou, Shilang, and the Daliba Sand Snorkeling AreaDue to ongoing rough sea conditions, precautionary access restrictions are in place near the shoreline. Visitors are advised to pay attention to their safety and avoid approaching the shore to prevent accidents.
