Handmade, small-scale farmers + indie bands: Kenting Creative Market Debuts at Dawan on August 15

The Kenting handmade street market is coming to the weekend scene. For the first time, the Kenting National Park Administration will host a market at the Dawan Visitor Center on August 15 and 16 this year. Centered around eco-friendly practices, ecotourism, environmental protection, and community industries, the event invites ecotourism-focused community tribes, small-scale farmers, and vendors offering handmade crafts and second-hand goods. There will also be two consecutive days of performances by indie bands, collectively named the “Kenting Market.”

The “Kenting Market” brings together eco-tourism communities in Kenting and local agricultural products from producers. It also collaborates with the Light of Love Cultural Education Promotion Association and the Shou Shou Market to gather handmade crafts and second-hand goods from Hengchun and other counties and cities. With a focus on green, ecological, and conservation themes, the event aims to showcase different facets of Kenting.

In addition to selling community-based ecotourism experiences, agricultural products, handmade crafts, second-hand items, and cultural and creative goods, the market will also feature performances by local indie bands. These include the Hengchun Gaoshu Tribe Ancient Ballad Choir led by New Formosa Band’s A VON, Summer from the band Relax One, Grass Star, an African drum team formed by the Holistic Indigenous Care Association, the CK Alliance Rock Band, The Bollands, and the Hengchun Folk Song Promotion Association. There will also be street performances by Fun Theatre, an action-statue art act.

Additionally, the market has invited local Kenting artists—Chen Changfan, Lee Houliang, Tsai I-chi, and Qiu Jiahua—to jointly present the “Corner Encounters. Symbiosis” exhibition featuring photography and paintings that highlight the beauty of Kenting. To promote the concept of ecological conservation, the Kenting Market will not provide plastic bags or single-use packaging. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own shopping bags.
