When it comes to the Siping commercial district in Taipei, besides the famous Fubawang braised pig trotter rice, this “Tomato Beef Noodles” shop is also a popular favorite among many.

Tucked away in an alley, Siping Street Tomato Beef Noodles may be a 6–7 minute walk from the busiest part of the commercial area, but its refreshing and unique taste still draws in many customers. In particular, many Japanese tourists make special trips to try it, keeping the place bustling with patrons all the time.

▲ Inside the shop, you can see customers hunched over, enjoying their noodles.

The shop’s signature dish is the beef knife-cut noodles with added tomatoes. Once served, you’ll see thick, white noodles topped with five or six generous slices of beef, bright red tomatoes, and vibrant baby bok choy — a sight that’s sure to put a smile on your face. The tomato-based broth, slow-cooked to perfection, gives off a sweet and tangy aroma that instantly whets the appetite.

▲ The thick slices of beef shin soak up the tomato broth, becoming even more tender and smooth.

Take a bite of the beef shin, and you’ll find it tender yet firm, with just the right amount of tendon that makes it smooth and enjoyable to eat. As for the knife-cut noodles, they’re about as wide as a finger, chewy and full of texture. After absorbing the sweet and tangy broth, they bring out the aroma of the flour even more, making every chew a delight. These hearty noodles also provide a satisfying fullness.

▲ Side dishes are self-service, each for 30 NT$, and portions are generous.

As for the broth, unlike other places that serve herbal, clear-braised, or soy-braised flavors, here you can clearly taste the natural sweetness of the tomatoes. Paired with a slightly sour and salty flavor profile, it’s refreshingly light and won’t overwhelm your palate with saltiness, so you can fully enjoy your side dishes without losing your taste for them — making it hard to stop at just one bite.

▲ The shop offers a variety of dishes with rich flavors, including different types of noodles and fried rice.

Besides the beef knife-cut noodles, the shop also offers many types of fried rice and noodle dishes for customers to choose from. There’s even a “soaked flatbread” option — scallion pancake served with soup. Several side dishes such as tofu with dried small fish and cold cucumber salad are also quite well-executed. For travelers who love noodle dishes, it’s definitely worth a visit when you’re shopping or catching a movie around Siping Street.
