Hold an Alishan Forest Railway round-trip ticket & ride Japan’s Oigawa Railway for free

The Alishan Forest Railway and Japan’s Oigawa Railway became sister railways, and in 2016, it will be their 30th anniversary. To show appreciation to travelers,any traveler from our country who takes the “Chiayi–Fenchihu” section of the Alishan Railway from September 1 until the end of March next year can exchange one round-trip Alishan train ticket for that section for one one-way regular passenger ticket on the “Kanaya–Senou” section of the Oigawa Railway.

The Chiayi Forest District Office stated that the Oigawa Railway, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, is well known for its Thomas the Tank Engine, steam trains, and rack-and-pinion (ABT) mountain railways, and has been sister railways with the Alishan Forest Railway since 1986.

The ticket exchange event between the Alishan Forest Railway and the Oigawa Railway runs from September 1 until March 31, 2016. Taiwanese travelerscan redeem their tickets at “Kanaya Station” in Shimada City, Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan, which is right next to JR Tokaido Main Line’s Kanaya Station. Redemption can be done on-site or by reservation, and if you wish to upgrade to an SL steam train, an additional fare difference will apply.
