The Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner. In addition to barbecuing under the stars and admiring the full moon at night, you can also plan some short getaways.The Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, ROC,has releaseda list of the top 12 most popular Mid-Autumn Festival destinations across Taiwan,so those planning to travel can use this list as a reference and start planning ahead.

When it comes to ideal spots for moon-gazing during the Mid-Autumn Festival, Kenting Nanwan boasts vast open space and minimal light pollution. Its crystal-clear blue waters and beautiful beaches make it a top choice. Additionally, high-altitude destinations with little light pollution such as Cingjing Farm and Alishan are also among the popular spots. Meanwhile, Chimei Museum, one of Tainan’s trending attractions, is a great date spot. Its Greek-style architecture reminiscent of the Palace of Versailles attracts large crowds.

For those planning to go out with family or children, theme parks are also a good option. Many amusement parks are offering promotions during the Mid-Autumn holiday, such as Leofoo Village’s offer where if your ID number contains two 2s, you can enter for just NT$222 — roughly a 70% discount. However, expect heavy traffic, so visitors should be prepared.

The Directorate General of Highways has announced the following top 12 Mid-Autumn Festival hot destinations along with public transportation arrangements for commuters’ reference:

1. Kenting Nanwan
The Kaohsiung City Motor Vehicle Office and the Kaohsiung Area Motor Vehicle Office are overseeing extra services on the “【9117】 Kaohsiung–Provincial Highway 17–Kenting” route (72 runs per day), the “【9188】 High-Speed Rail Zuoying Station–Provincial Highway 88–Eluanbi” route (64 runs per day), and the “【9189】 High-Speed Rail Zuoying Station–Provincial Highway 88–Xiaowan” route (42 runs per day).

2. Chimei Museum, Tainan Metropolitan Park
No intercity bus services available. The Tainan City Government-managed city buses — Routes 5, H31, Red 3, and Red 4 — will add services as needed based on crowd levels.

3. Tainan Anping Harbor
No intercity bus services available. The Chiayi Area Motor Vehicle Office is coordinating with the Tainan City Government to oversee additional runs on city buses — Routes 2, 14, 88, and 99.

4. Alishan
Chiayi County Bus’s “【7322】 Chiayi–Alishan” line will adjust services according to passenger volume. During the transport period, the office has set up a coordination group and is relaying road conditions on Provincial Highway 18 through the Fifth Construction Office’s traffic control center to monitor traffic and transport status.

5. Cingjing Farm
Nantou Bus’s “【6658】 Puli–Cuifeng” (6 runs/day), “【6659】 Puli–Songgang” (6 runs/day), and “【6664】 Puli–Cingjing Farm” (4 runs/day) routes will operate additional services.

6. Sun Moon Lake
Nantou Bus’s “【6670】 Taichung–Taichung HSR Station–Caotun–Puli–Yuchi–Sun Moon Lake” line (54 runs/day) will add services.

7. Hsinchu 17-Kilometer Coastal Scenic Area
No intercity bus services available. The Hsinchu Area Motor Vehicle Office is coordinating with the Hsinchu City Government to oversee additional runs on city bus Route 15.

8. Fulong Beach
There are relatively few local intercity bus services. The Taipei Motor Transport Supervisory Office has coordinated with New Taipei City Government to instruct city bus route 791 to operate additional shifts during this period.

9. Little World of Taiwan
The Hsinchu Motor Transport Supervisory Office has coordinated with bus operators to add flexible extra shifts during peak travel periods, including Hsinchu Bus “【5653】 Zhongli–Lucky Zoo (via Chetou)” and United Bus “【5350】 Taipei City–Little World of Taiwan–Lucky Land”.

10. Lucky Land
The Hsinchu Motor Transport Supervisory Office has coordinated with bus operators to add flexible extra shifts during peak travel periods, including Hsinchu Bus “【5653】 Zhongli–Lucky Zoo (via Chetou)” and United Bus “【5350】 Taipei City–Little World of Taiwan–Lucky Land”.

11. E-DA World
For the nine urban bus routes serving E-DA World (High-Speed Rail Zuoying Line, Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts Line, Kaohsiung City Government Line, Fengshan Line, Wujia Line, Gangshan Line, E-Da Medical Center Line, E-Da High-Speed Rail Line, and E-Da Qishan Line), the Kaohsiung City Government will flexibly increase service frequency during the consecutive holidays and encourage the public to use public transportation.

12. Janfusun Fancyworld
Public transport arrangements:
1. Taisi Bus
Douliu Railway Station → Janfusun Fancyworld: 7 shifts/day
Janfusun Fancyworld → Douliu Railway Station: 2 shifts/day
(Operates Monday to Saturday; suspended on public holidays and school breaks)
2. Taipei Risun Bus
Taipei Station 06:20–11:20 → Yongguang Station → Janfusun Fancyworld
Janfusun Fancyworld Prince Hotel 17:20 → Yongguang Station → Taipei Station

The provincial highway sections around these popular tourist attractions tend to experience congestion. The Directorate General of Highways stated that it will coordinate with police to strengthen traffic control and guidance during the holiday period, and advises the public to consider using public transportation instead.
