"JR West" Station 1195 Bans Selfie Sticks Starting Today

Following the announcement by many theme parks banning "selfie sticks" within their premises, Japanese railway company JR West has also declared that starting from the 19th, selfie sticks will be prohibited on all platforms at its 1195 stations. Not only will informational posters be used for reminders, but platform staff will also approach and advise passengers seen using them.

JR West stated that using selfie sticks on platforms may cause high-voltage electricity to arc from overhead cables if held too high, leading to electric shock accidents. Additionally, being focused on taking photos may cause passengers to overlook surrounding people and trains, creating potential dangers. Therefore, starting from the 19th, the use of selfie sticks is banned on all platforms across JR West’s 1195 stations.

In addition, JR West also reminds passengers that long pole-like objects such as fishing rods, ski poles, bows, and recording equipment also pose certain risks, and advises against holding them up high on platforms.
