Travel Center / Comprehensive Report
After work, meeting up with three or five friends at a yakitori spot to chat and drink is often an exciting plan. The simple flavors of the skewers, the aroma in the air, and the Japanese sake or shochu make the delicious charcoal-grilled fare so good that you might not even notice it’s past midnight. In recent years, many yakitori shops have opened in Taipei, such as Wu Liu Shou, Chuan Tsang, and Qi - Yakitori House, as well as Lin Bei Kao Hao, which became popular in Yilan before taking Taipei by storm. These are all hotspots where you can’t get in without a reservation.

Xiao Hu enjoys Japanese cuisine, but yakitori has never been his go-to or something he’d spontaneously suggest going out for. Still, he often hears friends bring up the name “Wu Liu Shou,” with some even calling it the best yakitori in Taipei. After trying it himself, Xiao Hu has to admit it really is the best yakitori he’s ever had. (Text / Xiao Hu)

“Lin Bei Kao Hao” is a yakitori shop that shot to fame in Yilan over the past year or two. Aside from its catchy name, its commitment to using local Yilan ingredients is a major draw for customers. What started as a roadside food truck four years ago has since expanded to three locations in Yilan, Luodong, and Jiaoxi, and recently opened a branch in Taipei’s Yanji Street. Owner Zhuang Zhihong said he hopes Taipei residents can also enjoy high-quality local Yilan ingredients.

Every skewer is prepared with culinary techniques; the seasoning and grilling of the yakitori are perfectly executed

▲Boneless Beef Roll with Scallions, 160 TWD. Just by looking, you can tell the meat and scallions are top-notch, so they’re seasoned only with a light sprinkle of salt. Yet when grilled, the aroma is incredibly rich. The beef fat seeps into the scallions while absorbing their sweet fragrance, and when you bite into it, you can still taste the juicy sweetness of the scallions!!!! (Photo provided by Mi’er)
The emphasis is on treating every skewer with “culinary” methods, from the selection of the most basic ingredients, to the balance of seasoning, and even the control of grilling heat. Paired with some kappo-style dishes, this small yakitori spot transforms into a gourmet destination—not an exaggeration. The second time Mi’er visited, she only realized upon leaving that quite a few customers were waiting in line outside to be seated. It just goes to show: good food never goes unnoticed. As long as you put your heart into making great dishes, customers will come. (Text by Mi’er)
