The first stop of the trip should definitely be a good meal to fuel up for fun. First, head to Model Street, the prime food battleground. Its most famous landmark is the “Chastity Archway.” The area around the archway is packed with popular, long-established eateries. So, while this egg crepe shop has only been open for eight years, it’s actually quite young—but its deliciousness is in no way inferior.

The shop only serves egg crepes. If you skip the egg, it’s essentially a scallion pancake, with a texture that’s more crispy compared to regular egg crepes. There are four sauce flavors to choose from: spicy, garlic, soybean paste, and salt and pepper, each offering a unique taste. You can mix and match as you like. From making the dough to allowing it to ferment for 24 hours, the owner insists on personally handling every step without delegating to anyone else, placing great importance on the quality of the egg crepes.

Shanhou Folk Village: Kinmen’s Most Beautiful Settlement

How can you visit Kinmen without stopping by the “Shanhou Folk Culture Village”? The traditional houses in the settlement are lined up neatly, looking as if they were renovated later, but they are actually authentic historical buildings.

The entire settlement consists of 16 residential houses, one ancestral hall, and one schoolhouse, hence the name “Shanhou Eighteen Houses.” The origin of this settlement dates back to when the Wang family, who made their fortune through trade in Japan, decided to give back to their hometown. They funded the construction of these homes for future generations and also made it the first heritage village in Kinmen to open to tourism.

There’s a local saying: “You may find wealth like that of Shanhou, but you won’t find houses like those of Shanhou.” This means there might be others as wealthy as the Wang family of Shanhou, but none would be willing to build 18 grand houses and distribute them among their kin—a testament to the generosity and nobility of the Wang ancestors.

Auntie Wang’s Snack Shop: Must-Have Stone Oyster Vermicelli and Oyster Omelet

After visiting Shanhou Folk Village, you should definitely head straight to the famously delicious Auntie Wang’s Snack Shop in the settlement. Don’t miss the signature oyster vermicelli and oyster omelet. The oysters used here are wild stone oysters from Kinmen. Despite their small size, each one is plump and juicy—guaranteed to win you over at first bite.

The broth of the stone oyster vermicelli is lightly seasoned, offering a deliciously fresh and savory taste. The oyster omelet stars oysters and eggs, with very generous ingredients. The exterior is fried golden and crispy, paired with a sweet and savory sauce—it’s truly amazing.
