Top 101 Best Restaurants in Asia: Taiwan’s Din Tai Fung Ranks 2nd

The American food website The Daily Meal releases an annual ranking of the Top 101 Best Restaurants in Asia. In 2015, the top spot went to Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong, followed by Taiwan’s Din Tai Fung in 2nd place, Four Seasons Hotel’s Lung King Heen in 3rd, Tokyo’s akazawa in 4th, and Shanghai’s Huangpu Club in 5th.Other Taiwanese restaurants on the list include L’Atelier by Eddy Yu in Taichung (38th), MUME (59th), and RAW (62nd).

Taiwan’s Din Tai Fung was ranked 1st in the 2013 edition of the Top 101 Best Restaurants in Asia but dropped to 6th in 2014. This year (2015), although it still lost to Hong Kong’s Tim Ho Wan, it made a strong comeback to rank 2nd. Meanwhile, the 2014 champion, Sukiyabashi Jiro, slipped to 25th place this year.

Taiwanese restaurants that made the 2014 list included Din Tai Fung, DN innovación (now closed), L’Atelier by Eddy Yu in Taichung, Osteria by Angie, la cocotte, and 72 Beef Noodles. Only Din Tai Fung and L’Atelier by Eddy Yu in Taichung remained on the 2015 list. However, two new restaurants made the cut this year: MUME and RAW, the new restaurant opened by Chef André Chiang. Chef Chiang’s Restaurant ANDRE in Singapore also made the list, ranking 41st.
