In the memories of many Taitung residents, Train No. 655, the Chu-Kuang Express, holds a special place, carrying them between eastern and western Taiwan. It was originally planned that after the Taiwan Railways Administration's major schedule revamp on the 15th, the mysterious overnight train No. 655 would be phased out. However, the TRA has stated,that following the schedule change, this train will continue to operate, with its route adjusted to terminate only at Shulin..

This train, hailed as the “poor man’s mobile hotel,” the TRA No. 655 Chu-Kuang Express, has been in service for nearly 30 years. It was originally scheduled to make its final run on October 11 before being retired. But the public noticed that Train No. 655 was still on the timetable after the schedule revamp！

The TRA explained,that after the schedule change, the new route for Train No. 655, the Chu-Kuang Express, will only go as far as Shulin, still departing from Taitung at 10:30 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The originally planned replacement for Train No. 655, Train No. 615, will have a different arrangement.. Passengers who wish to continue southbound on Train No. 655 will need to transfer to Train No. 543, the Chu-Kuang Express, which departs from Qidu and heads to Chaozhou to complete the journey.
