Royal Lake
Royal Lake is situated to the east of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon. It is an artificial lake constructed during the British colonial period. The lake has a perimeter of approximately 5 kilometers, a water depth ranging from 50 to 115 centimeters, and covers an area of 60.7 hectares. It is connected to Inya Lake via underground pipelines, which supply it with water.

Royal Lake is primarily used to supply clean water to the city. The entire lake is surrounded by the 110-hectare Kandawgyi Nature Park and the 69.25-hectare Yangon Zoological Gardens, offering stunning scenery. Moreover, Royal Lake is also home to Myanmar’s most distinctive royal double-decker boats, also known as Karaweik Palace. These boats look magnificent in daylight and are dazzlingly illuminated at night, casting colorful reflections on the water, making it one of the most famous attractions in Yangon.
