Chongkan Town is the hometown of Chen Tuan, a renowned Taoist master from the Five Dynasties and early Song Dynasty. It boasts abundant tourism resources, including cultural attractions such as the Octagonal Well, Chen Tuan Statue, Taiji Tower, Taiji Ancient Town, Thousand-Buddha Rock, and Jade Buddha Temple.
Tongnan Rapeseed Flower Scenic Area is located in Chongkan Town, Tongnan District, Chongqing, with the clear Qiongjiang River flowing through it. In Chongkan Town’s Qinggang Village, the scenic area has planted China’s largest rapeseed flower tai chi pattern, using rapeseed as the main backdrop and wheat as an accent, with a diameter of 236 meters. In Changshou Village, Chongkan Town, a sailboat pattern measuring 120 meters long and 80 meters wide has been planted. Around the main venue in Baisha Village, Chongkan Town, an artistic rapeseed wave pattern stretching 160 meters long and 60 meters wide has been cultivated, featuring interwoven yellow and purple hues—creating a spectacular and breathtaking sea of flowers that showcases the charm of Chongkan as the hometown of Taoism’s founding patriarch. Since 2008, Tongnan District has held eight consecutive Rapeseed Flower Festivals, where the 30,000-mu rapeseed base presents a “colorful sea of flowers and golden earth,” presenting yet another golden Tongnan. In 2009, Tongnan District’s Rapeseed Flower Scenic Area was honored as one of “China’s Most Beautiful Rapeseed Flower Seas”; in 2010, it was listed among “Chongqing’s Top Ten Spring Tourism Destinations.” The Tongnan Rapeseed Flower Scenic Area enjoys titles such as “China’s Most Beautiful Rapeseed Flower Sea” and “Chongqing’s Top Ten Spring Tourism Destinations.”
Adjacent to the Chongkan Rapeseed Flower Scenic Area lies the Tongnan Rose Flower Scenic Area, covering a viewing area of 6,000 mu. The scenic area features over 30 varieties of roses, including Damask, Fragrant Pure, and Pink Lady. The Tongnan Rose Flower Sea Scenic Area is divided into zones: “Getting to Know Zone,” “Falling in Love Zone,” “Staying Together Zone,” and “A Taste of Love” Zone. The scenic area offers a rich array of activities: first, you can stroll or take a boat ride to admire the Damask rose seas in the Golden Wedding, Silver Wedding, Iron Wedding, and Love Zones, and even pick your favorite roses in the self-picking section; second, there are rose-themed bonfire parties; third, you can experience the mysterious culture of the rose industry, visit the rose processing plant, and personally pick fresh roses to extract rose essential oil and rose hydrosol; fourth, you can purchase various rose-derived products at the scenic area.
The scenic area has nearly 50 farmhouses and guesthouses under the brand “Tongnan Farmhouse · Flower Sea Homestay” for visitors to dine and stay.

Chen Tuan (871~989) Chen Tuan (871–989), courtesy name Tunan, also known as Fuyaozi, was bestowed the titles “Mr. Baiyun” and “Mr. Xiyi.” He was a Chinese Taoist thinker, philosopher, internal alchemist, successor of Taiji culture, and a forerunner of Neo-Confucianism in the Song Dynasty. Born in 871 AD in Lingshan Guan, Longtaiyi, Chongkan County, Puzhou (present-day Longxi, Anyue, Sichuan) during the 12th year of the Xiantong era of Emperor Yizong of Tang. As a youth, he studied the classics and histories, mastering all of the “Book of Songs,” “Book of Documents,” “Book of Changes,” “Book of Rites,” and “Spring and Autumn Annals.” In 888 AD, the fourth year of the Guangqi era of Emperor Xizong of Tang, he was summoned to the imperial court and responded eloquently to the emperor.
