In 1975, the national key project Nanhe Dam was completed with a total investment of 73 million yuan, paving the way for tourism development in the area. The dam intercepts the waters of the Youjiang River, which originates from Wuzhifeng, creating a serene expanse of blue water amidst the rolling hills. The winding, meandering lake surface, complemented by the lush greenery of Nanhe Lake, forms a naturally and artificially integrated ecological wonder along the Youjiang River.
To develop the tourism resources of Nanhe, tourism authorities once invited renowned domestic experts to conduct surveys from top to bottom, examining the surrounding mountains, waters, springs, caves, rare flora and fauna, and local folk customs. Three major characteristics were identified: ① Rich tourism resources, including verdant mountains and clear waters, as well as a vast lake surface with minimal water level variation; ② High ecological tourism development potential in the lakeside and canyon areas, suitable for constructing high-end hotels, leisure clubs, and tourism real estate; ③ A lake surface area of 2.4 square kilometers, with a 7-kilometer stretch from Dongshan to Yuezi, where undulating mountains and picturesque lake views create a refreshing and delightful scenery. Currently, tourism plans are being developed for the Feicui Island area in Dashuikou Town and the Dongxikeng area in Dongshan Town. Meanwhile, to enable comprehensive development of Nanhe Lake, the county is planning to construct a lakeside ring road, as well as connecting routes to expressways and first-class highways.
