Wild Horse River
The Wild Horse River is situated in the central region of Shennongjia, spanning a total length of 10 kilometers. Its riverbed is dotted with rocky shoals, and the water flows swiftly yet remains crystal clear—it is the habitat of the Chinese giant salamander. As you travel along the river, you’ll encounter ever-changing scenery: drifting white clouds one moment, willows gently swaying the next; sheer cliffs as if carved by knives, then moments where the path seems to end abruptly, only to open up again into lush landscapes. There is no trace of pollution here—the fresh scent of forest grass mingled with a hint of riverine aroma allows you to quickly grasp the ancient sages’ sentiment that “the benevolent enjoy the mountains, the wise enjoy the waters.” Drifting along this river feels like journeying through a fairyland.
