Longgong Ecotourism Area

Introduction      Longgong Ecotourism Area is situated on the edge of the Tengger Desert in the northern part of Zhongwei City, about 10 kilometers from downtown Zhongwei, covering an area of 25,000 mu. The area features Ningxia’s largest Taoist temple — Longgong Temple. To the north of Longgong Temple, the ancient Great Wall meanders through the landscape, with millennia-old remnants still visible. On this site stands Sifangding, the largest beacon tower on the ancient Great Wall of Ningxia. On both the southern and northern sides of Sifangding, there are two well-preserved ancient city ruins. Not far north of the Great Wall lies Xiaohu Lake, a natural freshwater lake covering approximately several dozen hectares, formed by underground springs.

The lake water is crystal clear and azure, rippling gently like a jade embedded in the vast desert. Dozens of species of waterfowl and migratory birds freely inhabit the lake. To the west and north, the lake is surrounded by golden sand dunes, creating a true desert lake.

The northern shore of Xiaohu Lake is home to Zhongwei City’s largest man-made forest. Over the past 50 years, through the efforts of several generations, it has grown into an ecological forest spanning 15,000 mu. Walking into the woods, you’ll be greeted by refreshing breezes, wildflowers, peculiar trees, and breathtaking scenery, making it a rare oasis in the desert. To the north of the forest lies the boundless Tengger Desert. Here, you can watch the sunrise over the sea of sand in the morning and admire the solitary smoke over the desert in the evening.
