Diaopo Liang

Introduction     The terrain is complex, mostly consisting of chain-like crescent dunes. Along the edge of the sandy desert are northeast-southwest oriented sand ridges, which rise in the middle, forming a fishback shape. Some dunes also exhibit a grid-like pattern and are called grid-type crescent dunes. Standing atop the high dunes and looking around, numerous interconnected dunes resemble ocean waves, undulating continuously. Due to their golden hue, they are referred to as “Golden Sea Waves.” The height of the dunes on Diaopo Liang generally exceeds 30 meters.

Note: In Zhongwei dialect, “吊” (diào) means long. Therefore, “吊坡” refers to a very long and high sand slope.
