In the natural forest, superior stands are selected. From these stands, elite trees are chosen based on their phenotypic characteristics. Scions are then collected from these elite trees and grafted in nurseries to cultivate clonal seedlings of high quality. These seedlings are later transplanted into the seed orchard.
The orchard features a comprehensive variety of species, a wide distribution of clones, and remains the largest artificial clonal seed orchard in Asia to date. Additionally, a premium seed base has been newly developed on this foundation, covering a total of over 18,000 mu. It has cumulatively produced 4,000 kilograms of premium seeds and is also among the first national gene banks for Scots pine seeds. In 2009, the site was designated as a National Key Premium Seed Base by the State Forestry Administration. After decades of meticulous cultivation, the seed orchard has entered its fruiting period and has become a stable, high-yield premium seed production base in the Greater Khingan Mountains forest region. It has achieved the goals of regionalized production of premium tree seeds, standardized quality, and diverse varieties. In 2008, the Ten-Thousand-Mu Seed Orchard scenic area was rated as a 3A-level tourist attraction by the provincial tourism bureau.
