The Beishika Thousand Buddha Caves are part of a series of cave temples along the Mutedong Valley. Next to the western caves, there are ruins of a temple complex. On the platform in front of the caves, there was once a temple, and remnants of murals can still be found in four of the caves, with styles very similar to those in the Bezeklik Grottoes. Based on the remaining caves, they feature rectangular barrel-vaulted ceilings, reflecting the architectural style of the Gaochang Uyghur period.
