The Jilin Changbai Mountain National Nature Reserve spans an area of 190,000 hectares and is home to over 2,400 plant species, nearly 500 vertebrate species, and thousands of invertebrate species. It is a typical representation of the flora and fauna of the northern part of the Eurasian continent and was included in the international "Man and the Biosphere" reserve network in 1980. To meet the needs of scientific research, public education, and tourism, the management bureau of the reserve established the Changbai Mountain Nature Museum in 1986. The museum houses over 1,500 specimens of plants and animals, accounting for about 60% of the species found in Changbai Mountain. It is also the largest and most comprehensive single-region-based nature museum in China to date.
