“Red Capital” Ruijin was the seat of the Chinese Soviet Republic. The county is home to numerous revolutionary sites, mainly located in villages such as Ye Ping, Sha Zhou Ba, and Yun Shi Shan. On September 28, 1931, Mao Zedong and others led the base area’s military and civilians to crush the enemy’s first, second, and third “encirclement campaigns,” establishing, developing, and consolidating the Central Revolutionary Base in Ye Ping Village. From November 7 to 20, 1931, the First National Congress of Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers of the Chinese Soviet Republic was held here, during which key resolutions including the Constitution Outline, Labor Law, Land Law, and economic policies were passed. The Chinese Soviet Republic was officially proclaimed, with Mao Zedong as Chairman. Revolutionary sites in Ye Ping Village include the former residences of Mao Zedong and others, the former site of the Central Workers’ and Peasants’ Democratic Government, the Red Army Review Stand, the Monument to Red Army Soldiers, the Gonglue Pavilion, and the Boxeng Fort. From April 1933 to July 1934, the Central Workers’ and Peasants’ Democratic Government relocated from Ye Ping to Sha Zhou Ba. Existing revolutionary sites from that period include the Central Government Auditorium, the former site of the Central Politburo (Xiaxiao Village, Sha Zhou Ba), the former site of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions (Jizi Pai, Sha Zhou Ba), the former site of the General Political Department of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army (Bai Wu, Sha Zhou Ba), the Red Well (beside a pond in front of Sha Zhou Ba, with a monument reading “Never forget those who dug the well when you drink from it”), and the former site of the Lenin Primary School. In 1934, during the Nationalist encirclement campaign against the Soviet Area, the Central Government, Politburo, and others temporarily moved to an ancient temple in Yun Shi Shan. In October 1934, the central leadership of the Party led the Red Army in a breakout and strategic transfer, beginning the world-famous 25,000-li Long March. Other revolutionary sites on this red land of Ruijin include the “Bullet-Hole Wall” at Da Bai Di, the former site of others at Wu Shi Long, the Central Party School at Yang Xi Ancestral Hall, the Red Army University at Da Fu Township, and the “First Bridge of the Long March” at Wu Yang Qiao.
