Yizhai Village Taoist Temple is located on Baoding Mountain at the junction of Bao Ding, Chaoshui, and Qinglong villages in Huangguan Town, Nanzheng County. Also known as Baoding Mountain Taoist Temple, it was built in the early Ming Dynasty and is one of the more influential Taoist activity sites in the county.
Baoding Mountain features steep and rugged terrain. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, ancient pines and cypresses towered toward the sky. The temple was built along the mountain’s contour and originally included three courtyards of halls and an ancient theater building. The fortress walls were constructed from stone, 1.90 meters thick and 5.20 meters high. The east gate was 2.00 meters wide and 2.30 meters high. The Hall of True Enlightenment Patriarch stood majestically atop the mountain, with a stone flagpole in front. Other shrines “were carved into the cliffs to create a grand spectacle,” housing statues of deities such as the True Enlightenment Patriarch, Zhou Gong, Peach Blossom, Thunder God, and Lightning Goddess. These figures were exquisitely crafted, with realistic expressions and clearly defined, smoothly flowing colors and painted lines. Unfortunately, during the Cultural Revolution, the temple suffered devastation and was demolished. Currently, parts of the fortress walls, the east and south gates, the foundation of the theater, architectural decorative elements, and a stone stele erected in the ninth year of the Guangxu reign (1883) still remain.
