Luding Mountain

Luding Mountain originates from the classic novel *The Deer and the Cauldron* by Jin Yong. During the Qing Dynasty, Emperor Kangxi dispatched his trusted guard Wei Xiaobao to eliminate the Divine Dragon Sect and capture the fake Empress Dowager. Amidst the chaos, to escape pursuit by the cult leader Hong Antong, Wei Xiaobao rode a deer northward from Vladivostok. In Mudanjiang, he encountered three Tungusic people who told him the location of “Huma'er Wojishan.” Wei Xiaobao asked his servant Shuang’er to consult with local ginseng hunters based on the mountain names mentioned in the treasure map. The directions matched the map perfectly. Wei Xiaobao thought: “So Luding Mountain is actually thousands of miles from here.” With nothing else to do, he hired a cart and traveled for over twenty days. The further north they went, the colder it became — the roads were frozen and snow-covered, making carts impassable. The two then switched to horses and rode for several more days until they reached the confluence of two major rivers. Shuang’er pointed to a mountain path and said, “This is Luding Mountain.”

According to local legend, the great treasures of the Qing Dynasty are buried here, along with the people who hid them, forever entombed in this place. This stone pillar resembles a steadfast man, standing tall and gazing at the river town, with tears that formed a pool — hence it is called the “Longing-for-Hometown Stone.” From a distance, the pillar exudes a strong masculine energy, and later generations also refer to it as the “Facing-Upward Stone.”

This mountain features steep terrain and is famed for its “four wonders”: unique pines, peculiar rocks, divine springs, and farmland. Standing at the viewing platform and looking out, the beautiful scenery around Huma Town can be fully appreciated.
