在西津门至东河大桥一段，沿江蜿蜒，是江西现存规模最大的古代城墙。它长3664米，墙高5－7米，雄伟壮观，气势非凡，给古老的赣州增添了几分英姿。它是北宋嘉伯年间为防洪水用砖石修筑的，现为全国屈指可数的北宋砖墙之一。
除城墙外，还保存有炮城、马面、拜将台等军事设施和数以万计的铭文城砖。这些铭文城砖是研究赣州古城，特别是宋城的最珍贵的遗存。
