Qianjiang Wenfeng Pagoda
Wenfeng Pagoda stands on a solitary peak at the northern foot of Youyang in the Urban Canyon Gorge Scenic Area. Constructed in the 29th year of the Daoguang reign (1849) by the Ning clan of Qianjiang, it covers an area of about 20 square meters. The pagoda is a hexagonal, stone-structured pavilion-style tower with five stories and a finial, standing 15.5 meters tall with base sides measuring 2.1 meters. Its plain body tapers upward by story, and the finial is shaped like a gourd. Each tier features overlapping eaves held together with cast iron tenons and bound with lime mortar. The structure also carries significant historical information related to ancient feng shui, culture, social psychology, and architectural concepts.

Legend has it that Youyang Mountain to the south of the canyon is the “male mountain,” while Qiaqi Mountain to the north is the “female mountain.” It was believed that these two mountains would merge after people fell asleep, blocking the Qianjiang River and causing the city to be flooded, resulting in disaster. To prevent the mountains from joining and harming Qianjiang City, the ancestors of the Ning family built the pagoda on the solitary peak at the northern foot of Youyang Mountain to suppress them. Since then, Qianjiang City has been free from flooding. In July 2002, the Qianjiang District Government designated it as a cultural relics protection unit.
