中国天主教爱国会在西城柳荫街14号。1958年于北京正式成立。1982年，在北京成立中国天主教主教团，为中国天主教各教区的领导机构。有成员56人。并成立中国天主教教务委员会。第二届教务委员会有委员172人
下属中国天主教神哲学院，培养天主教神职人员，主教团下设编审机构编辑出版刊物《中国天主教》和圣经、圣书等。基督教分为天主教、正教和新教三大派别。天主教元代传入中国，后中断，明末期又传入。中国现有天主教徒330万人。
