Museum of the Chinese Revolution

The Museum of the Chinese Revolution is located on the east side of Tiananmen Square. It is a national museum dedicated to collecting cultural relics and materials related to China's modern and contemporary history, as well as researching, exhibiting, and promoting China’s modern and contemporary history. Covering an area of 46,000 square meters with a construction area of 32,500 square meters, the museum's permanent exhibition is titled “Exhibition of Modern China.” It authentically recreates the Chinese people’s struggle against Western powers’ invasion, the overthrow of feudal rule, and the eventual establishment of the People’s Republic of China since the Opium War in 1840. The “Contemporary China” section of the exhibition reflects the twists and turns in the Chinese people’s journey through socialist revolution and construction after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The exhibition is divided into ten sections: the beginning of China’s semi-feudal and semi-colonial society; the emergence of modern industry; frontier crises; deepening national crises; the Hundred Days' Reform; the Xinhai Revolution; the struggle to defend the republic and the rise of the New Culture Movement; the May Fourth Movement, the beginning of the new democratic revolution; the National Revolution and the overthrow of the Beiyang warlords; the Agrarian Revolution and the development of the anti-Japanese movement; the nationwide War of Resistance and the defeat of Japanese imperialism; and the Liberation War and the victory of the democratic revolution. The “Exhibition of Modern China” adheres to the principle of seeking truth from facts. With its clear theme, unique display system, rich physical exhibits, vivid and diverse presentation methods, and concise texts, it attracts a wide audience both in China and abroad. In addition to the permanent exhibition, the Museum of the Chinese Revolution frequently hosts various temporary exhibitions in conjunction with major commemorative events or to meet societal needs. These successful exhibitions have had a significant social impact and are very popular. The National Museum of Chinese History is housed in the same building as the Museum of the Chinese Revolution, with an exhibition area of 5,000 square meters. The exhibitions feature an extremely rich collection of artifacts and images that showcase China’s social development from primitive slave society to the end of the Qing Dynasty.
