小山度假区在敦化市大山咀子镇的东方，有一个三面环水的小渔村名叫小山咀子村。村子依山傍水，西南是牡丹江，东面是雁鸣湖。近些年新建有度假村等旅游接待设施，常年接待各来客。
小山咀子村风光秀丽，有南国水乡的妩媚，又具北方的豪放。游人在这里可登山，可垂钓，也可划船，游泳，还可坐船游览至毗邻的著名风景区-镜泊山庄。
