Immortal Lake

Huili Immortal Lake was built in 1966, located 7.5 kilometers from Huili County town with direct road access. It covers an area of approximately 0.84 square kilometers. Surrounded by mountains on all sides and bounded by mountain ridges, the total area spans 7.83 square kilometers. The lake and surrounding landscape present picturesque scenery. Various waterfowl such as egrets, herons, and wild ducks inhabit the lakeshore, sometimes soaring high above the lake and other times perching proudly on the treetops along the shore. Swallows skim the water while kingfishers hunt for fish, creating a delightful natural environment. About five li to the northwest lies the "Immortal Cave," which has been recorded in the Qing Dynasty’s local chronicles. The cave is about 3 meters high and 4 meters wide, with an unfathomable depth; currently, around 300 meters are accessible. A spring inside the cave flows continuously, offering cool and refreshing water. In the center of the lake lies Immortal Island, named after the lake, covering an area of approximately 16,000 square meters.

In 1988, the "Huili Meeting Monument" was erected on the island. In 1935, during the Long March, the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army held an enlarged meeting of the Central Political Bureau in Tiechang Village (now submerged) within the current lake area. On holidays, the site is often visited by teachers and students, officials, workers, and tourists, making it an important base for revolutionary tradition education.
