Guyuan Yunwu Mountain Grassland
Located about 45 kilometers northeast of Guyuan City, Yunwu Mountain is a peak covered in lush green grass. Its main peak reaches an altitude of 2,128 meters. The base of the mountain consists of dolomite and red conglomerate, with soil types including dark brown earth and light black loam, supporting meadow vegetation. In 1982, Guyuan established a 4,000-hectare grassland nature reserve on Yunwu Mountain. In 1995, it was designated as a provincial (regional) nature reserve, making it the first grassland-type nature reserve established on China’s Loess Plateau.
The reserve is home to 182 plant species from 131 genera across 51 families, 80 animal species from 74 genera across 40 families, 28 beneficial insect species from 14 families, and 7 spider species from 5 families. The primary focus of the reserve is the protection of this grassland vegetation and its ecosystem, including climate, soil, insects, wildlife, and microorganisms.
