Ghost Trench

　　Ghost Trench is located at the boundary between Banliu Village and Guolang Village in Ligao Township. Legend has it that Guanyin gave birth to a hundred sons here, hence the name “Hundred Sons Trench.” The sides of the trench feature steep mountains and narrow roads, making it a perilous section along the Liuyong Highway. On June 16, 1945, the 525th Regiment of the 46th Nationalist Army Division arrived here via a shortcut from Qianjiang and joined forces with local village self-defense teams and civilians to resist the Japanese army. After two days and nights of fierce fighting, the Japanese suffered heavy casualties and fled in panic. To commemorate this victory, a stone archway was erected at the entrance of the trench, inscribed with the three large characters “鬼子坳” (Ghost Trench), and a memorial pavilion along with a commemorative stele were built to record the details of the battle. Today, the stele and pavilion have been destroyed.
