山河堰位于山青水秀的褒毂口，是刘邦驻军汉中时，由萧何和曹参主持修建的水利工程。原灌溉南郑、褒城两县部分地区，现在使用的褒惠渠基本上是沿山河堰旧线修筑的。
其堰头有三处，可截住褒河水用于灌溉农田，在历史上起了非常重要的作用。
现在，在山河堰上仍可寻找到汉代的遗迹。
