Fugong County is situated in the middle section of the Nujiang Grand Canyon and is a typical area representing Lisu culture. The Lazhudi Lisu Village is 4 kilometers from the county town, with the Wugong Highway passing by the village. It sits at an elevation of 1,360 meters and has a population of 346 residents. The village boasts abundant tourism resources, strong regional integration, and distinctive characteristics. Its resources include terraced farmland landscapes nestled among canyons and mountain ranges, with the roaring Nujiang River and Lazhudi River flowing past the village. The Nujiang River features zip lines and a pedestrian-horse suspension bridge for adventure. The large sandy beach on the west bank could be developed into a Lisu-themed “Lover’s Beach Burying” attraction. The village is also home to a unique four-part harmony singing style among Lisu farmers that blends Western and indigenous musical elements. Along the Daginqing River in the village and the small riverbanks by the Nujiang, space can be developed for tourism reception facilities and a street dedicated to the production of tourism-related goods.

The fusion of nature and culture gives Lazhudi’s landscapes and local customs a unique charm, shaping the hardworking, brave, hospitable, and musically expressive character of the people in this grand canyon region. The architecture, cuisine, clothing, festivals, weddings and funerals, and ethnic songs and dances all retain ancient traditions, forming a style entirely its own. This includes distinctive stone-wall houses, thousands-of-feet wooden stilt houses, and fence-style dwellings, as well as uniquely local dishes such as hand-grabbed rice, roast suckling pig, and corn porridge. The area is also known for its vibrant ethnic costumes. Mysterious indigenous religions and introduced Western religious cultures together create a rich and colorful cultural experience, making it a prime example of authentic Lisu ethnic flavor.
