Seven-Lotus Lake

In the regions along both sides of the Nujiang River at altitudes above 3,500 meters, there are numerous glacial lakes. During the transition between spring and summer, as the ice melts and the snow recedes, flowers bloom wherever the snow retreats — from the mountains to the lakesides, creating a vast ocean of blossoms. The crystal-clear, azure lake water reflects the endless primeval forests and the vast blue sky, while the snow sets off the brilliant colors of the alpine azaleas.

No one has accurately counted just how many of these high-altitude lakes exist, but locals will tell you there are too many to ever explore them all. Just on Mount Biluo, which rises above 3,800 meters within the territory of Fugong County, there are more than ten such lakes, among which the largest and most beautiful is Seven-Lotus Lake (also known as Seven Fairies Lake). Seven small lakes, like seven blooming snow lotuses, are scattered across the majestic mountains. The lake water comes from melted snow and ice, making it clear and calm as a mirror in the mountains. The surroundings consist of snow-capped peaks, forests, meadows, and seas of flowers... The scenery is so stunningly beautiful that locals have dubbed it “Enchanting Lake.”
