Chanlong Temple
Chanlong Temple is situated 1.5 kilometers north of Yangping Town, Chencang District, Baoji City, on the south side of Qinjiagou Canal, bordering Qishan Mountain to the east, offering a view of the Baoji tourist destination Diaoyutai to the south, looking toward Guozhen in Chencang District to the west, and connecting to Hengshui in Fengxiang to the north. The temple boasts profound cultural heritage. It was originally built during the Sui Dynasty and flourished in the Tang Dynasty. According to historical records, the temple covered an area of 53.3 hectares, housed over 500 resident monks, and included more than 300 monk rooms and guest halls. As a royal monastery, Princess Pingyang frequently visited to worship and pay homage to the Buddha. However, after periods of war, it was destroyed in the late Ming Dynasty. It was restored in the eighth year of the Kangxi reign during the early Qing Dynasty (1669), but suffered damage again before liberation and during the Cultural Revolution, becoming overgrown and reduced to ruins.

Starting in 1988, private individuals raised funds to restore Chanlong Temple. In 1993, the temple became a branch of Daxingshan Temple. In 1994, the Chencang District government implemented religious policies, established the Chencang District Buddhist Association within the temple, and officially approved it to open to the public. On April 27, 2007, a ceremony was held to consecrate the statues in the Hall of the Three Saints. Currently, Chanlong Temple features a five-room Mahavira Hall, a five-room chanting hall, a cast bronze statue of Kṣitigarbha, an eight-room dining hall, and 20 monk quarters, largely restoring the ancient monastery’s original compassionate and charitable spirit of cultivating blessings.

Now the temple has a well-established organizational structure, lush surroundings, an elegant environment, thriving incense offerings, and the ancient monastery has regained its vitality.
