Lanping Ancient Tea Horse Road Scenic Area
The Lanping Ancient Tea Horse Road Scenic Area is located about 40 kilometers southeast of Simao City, covering an area of over 200 square kilometers. Within the area lies a well-preserved stone-paved road known as the Chaba Ancient Road, which winds through rugged mountains.
It was an ancient trade route for tea and salt in southern Yunnan (Pu'er tea and Mohai salt were both transported along this path to other regions), and also an important section of the Southern Silk Road. Judging from its construction style—hard sandstone slabs used for the road surface—it bears a strong resemblance to the Bonan Ancient Road in western Yunnan. The remnants of the Ancient Tea Horse Road are covered in mossy patches and shaded by the dense canopy of pristine forests.
