It is said that the ancestors of Liguan Village migrated here during the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, bringing with them lychee saplings which they planted. Over time, these trees spread throughout the entire village. The oldest lychee tree in the village is reportedly over 300 years old. Even after centuries of change, the village’s thousand-plus century-old lychees remain vibrant, blooming every year and bearing fruit annually. Their unique flavor has earned them fame across Deqing and the surrounding regions. It’s no exaggeration to say that many of the lychee trees planted elsewhere in Deqing originated from Liguan. The lychee trees in the village have naturally formed a forest, with rustic village houses nestled among them, creating a delightful and picturesque scene — a true ecological lychee garden.
The thousand ancient lychee trees of Liguan Village also offer a rare spectacle not commonly seen elsewhere. When the lychee blossoms bloom each year, their fragrance wafts through the air, attracting numerous visitors who come to admire the flowers. It also draws beekeepers from nearby areas, who painstakingly bring their hives to harvest the sweet lychee honey. During this season, the whole village is filled with the sweet scent of lychee nectar, bustling bees, and the cheerful laughter echoing through the depths of the lychee groves — an intoxicating scene that captivates and makes one linger without wanting to leave.
Liguan Village is not only graced with lychee groves but is also embraced by two lively little streams that wind around the village homes. This gives the entire settlement a network of flowing streams and quaint bridges. Sturdy, ancient lychee trees grow along the water, forming dense groves. The combination of lychee woods and streams lends the village a serene yet vibrant charm, embodying the unique allure of a southern Chinese garden.
