Luming Academy

Luming Academy is situated within the government compound of Bozhi Town. In 2001, it was recognized as a cultural heritage site by the People's Government of Deqing County. Constructed during the Jiaqing era of the Qing Dynasty and renovated in the Republican period, the academy faces west and is built with brick and wood. It has a total width of 21.6 meters and a depth of 8 meters, covering an area of 172.8 square meters. The original structure consisted of two sections—front and back—but only the rear section remains today. Its exterior features a blend of Chinese and Western architectural styles. The rear building has nine bays in width, three bays in depth with seventeen roof trusses, and is three stories high. The front part of each floor has square-columned arched corridors, while the interior is made of wooden planks. Each bay is supported by square brick pillars and stone beam brackets. During the Republican era, the academy functioned as a private school and was also known as Luming Middle School. In 1941, during the War of Resistance against Japan, the Guangdong Provincial Zhaoqing Normal School (the predecessor of today’s Zhaoqing No. 2 Vocational High School) relocated here to continue its operations. Faculty and students actively engaged in underground anti-Japanese activities, promoted patriotic resistance ideologies among the public, and nurtured a group of patriotic students and dedicated individuals, composing a moving chapter in the history of China’s wartime resistance.
