Mount SAPU Sacred Mountain and Holy Lake
Mount SAPU Sacred Mountain and Holy Lake are situated in Puzonggou, Yangxiu Township. For thousands of years, Mount SAPU has stood here, surrounded by a sea of mountains. Its main peak is revered as the king of local sacred mountains. The Sacred Lake of SAPU was formed from millennia of glacial meltwater from the sacred mountain. It stretches from the foot of the mountain and is divided into two parts: the glacier lake near the base of the mountain remains frozen year-round. The other part is the main lake, with clear and pristine waters. Therefore, every year on May 15th, a grand religious circumambulation ceremony is held around the SAPU Sacred Lake to pray for blessings. Legend has it that the surface of the main lake melts completely overnight on May 15th each year and then freezes again overnight on September 15th—a miraculous phenomenon that makes this an excellent destination for tourism and sightseeing.
